Global, national, and local news frequently focuses on water pollution. Water pollution is affecting our health and that of the fresh water and ocean food sources upon which we depend. In Europe and the United States, strategies against chemical pollution of surface waters are being developed at multiple scales. European Union-wide regulatory efforts are already underway (Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC) and solutions are also being actively pursued by individual countries. The Clean Water Act is the primary federal law in the United States governing water pollution. Two of the most problematic forms of pollution affecting our water resources today are plastics and hydrocarbons.
Each year, an estimated 17.6 billion pounds of plastic enters the marine environment from land-based sources. This is equivalent to dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into our oceans every minute. Similarly, it is estimated that approximately 706 million gallons of oil enter the ocean every year via many sources: accidental spills or leaks, careless disposal or storage of oil and oil products, atmospheric deposition, and stormwater runoff from cities and farms.
Earthwise Sorbents reduces plastic pollution by recycling and repurposing foam and fabric waste into environmental clean-up products. Oursorbents address petroleum pollution by containing and cleaning up spills on land before they affect valuable aquatic resources or by effectively targeting a variety of hydrocarbons in aquatic environments.
Sorbents are commonly used for oil and chemical spill clean-up and come in a variety of forms; powders, pads, pillows, booms, etc. Sorbents can also be used to improve customer and worker safety by absorbing spills that could create slip and fall hazards.
Most sorbents currently available are made from virgin polyurethane (foam) and polypropylene (fabric) materials. Many natural or alternative sorbent products are clay and natural fiber based. These alternatives frequently lack durability or absorb water in addition to oil and chemicals, reducing their effectiveness and elevating disposal costs because of this additional weight.
Earthwise Sorbents, a San Diego, California based company, offersan array of highly effective sorbent products, made from recycled and repurposed foam and fabric materials. Earthwise Sorbents repurposes polyurethane wastes into high performance absorbent pillows and recycles plastic and polypropylene wastes from other large vendors into melt-blown pads, sweeps, and booms. This reduces the carbon footprint of manufacturing our products and gives foam and fabric wastes a second life as environmental clean-up products.
Earthwise products are oleophilic (absorb oil) and hydrophobic (repel water) for on-land and in-water applications. Our pads and sock boomstarget oil specifically (oil-only) or a wider array of chemicals (universal). Our sweeps, open-net and strand booms target petroleum spills in water - sheensas well as slicks. All our products have been third-party tested in comparison to industry standard products and demonstrate equivalent or better absorbency.
Earthwise offers worldwide factory-direct container shipments and regularly scheduled deliveries of orders throughout the US and internationally.
We are passionate about environmentally sustainable products, we have made it our mission to provide high quality sorbent products made from sustainable, recycled, or repurposed materials.
